Keflex is a prescription medication used to treat bacterial infections including upper respiratory infections, ear infections, skin infections, urinary tract infections, and bone infections. Keflex is an antibiotic containing cephalexin which works by fighting bacteria in your body. Keflex is used to treat bacterial infections and will not work to treat viral infections.

• Keflex can be taken with or without food and is usually taken every 6-12 hours at evenly spaced times.
• You should continue taking Keflex for the full amount of time it is prescribed even if your symptoms have disappeared before this.
• Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens.

Make sure to tell your doctor:

• If you have any drug or other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• Your medical history especially of stomach disorder, kidney disease, liver disease, intestinal disorder or diabetes.
• If you are pregnant or planning on pregnancy.
• If you are breast-feeding.

Common side effects of Keflex:

• Nausea or vomiting.
• Diarrhea, stomach pain or indigestion.
• Vaginal itching or discharge.

If you have any of the following side effects of cephalexin, seek medical help:

• Severe stomach pain or bloody or watery diarrhea. This may occur months after your final dose.
• Unusual tiredness or lightheadedness.
• Shortness of breath.
• Pale skin or cold hands or feet.
• Seizures.
• Easy bruising or bleeding or red or purple spots under your skin.
• Painful or dark colored urine.
• A pain in your side or lower back.
• Fever or weakness.
• Jaundice.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction including difficulty breathing, hives or swelling in your face, lips or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Keflex?

If you miss a dose of Keflex, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.
